Meet the Akron District Co-Directors – Donna Patz & Judy Aplis
Donna Patz, Co-District Director
I’ve been a member of Nordonia Hills Garden Club for 18 years and a member of Twinsburg Garden Club 3 years and a GCO Co-District Director for 2 years.
We have many large oak trees in our yard and as a result I’m involved in shade gardening with an interest in herbs growing on the deck. Still have two black labs, my garden buddies. Love most kinds of music and membership at Playhouse Square. Enjoy Cuyahoga Valley Park membership, Northfield Presbyterian Day Care Board, and membership with a Citizens’ Park & Rec Committee in Northfield Center Township where we learned , among many other things, how “hot” playground equipment can become on sunshine days for children depending on the color of playground equipment made by some manufacturers!!
Judy Aplis, Co-District Director
In 2004 I retired from teaching after thirty-five years. Since retiring, I have been able to pursue many interests that I did not have the time for while teaching
I have been a member of the Twinsburg Garden Club for the past nine years. I first served as Vice President and currently am Co-President of the club as well as editor of our club newsletter.
Being outside in the garden is something I love doing, so when I retired from teaching I immediately became a volunteer gardener at the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland. Now, sixteen years later, I still look forward to being able to help create a lovely sanctuary for those staying at the House during a very stressful time in their lives.
In addition to gardening, I am an avid reader and belong to a book club, I enjoy taking exercise classes to keep fit, take an art class and serve as the secretary on the Board of Trustees at my temple. My husband and I enjoy seeing the plays at Playhouse Square and traveling both in and out of the country, especially to visit our children and grandchildren who all live out of state.
I am looking forward to working with the GCO members as a Co-District Director.
