Meet the Cleveland District Co-Directors Elaine George & Cindy Mulligan

Cindy Mulligan

My introduction to garden clubs was serendipitous, occurring when I noticed a sign announcing a plant sale. Needless to say, I left with a box of botanical treasures. The following year, I contacted City Hall for sale details, and they directed me to the membership chair of the North Olmsted Garden Club. I embraced the invitation to join and embarked on a delightful journey that has lasted for 20+ years.
Each year, our club sponsors a Garden & Flower Show and I eagerly volunteered as a clerk which was an opportunity to gain experience from seasoned judging professionals. I am also a current member of the Cleveland Flower Arranger’s Guild and regularly attending meetings has been an incredible source of knowledge, allowing me to glean valuable insights from my fellow club members. Today I am a Flower Show Student Judge, diligently working towards fulfilling the remaining requirements.
My love for gardening was from my mother. To this day, her day lilies and iris continue to thrive in my own home garden, serving as a constant reminder of our shared connection to nature. My business career has focused on working with people. I currently deliver online webinars to people who are in job transition, guiding them to manage their talent and tell their stories.
I am committed to fostering a vibrant community of like-minded individuals, sharing our collective wisdom and passion for horticulture, art, and the beauty they create together. Feel free to reach out to me with any ideas, suggestions, or questions. Together, let us cultivate a thriving and inspiring environment within the Garden Club of Ohio.

Elaine George

I truly believe that my interest in gardening is a natural extension in my love of the outdoors.  Hiking, biking or horseback riding through our beautiful Metroparks was always my idea of a perfect day!  Working at the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center in Bay Village taught me so much about the natural world we live in and how important it is to preserve it.
I joined the Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club in 2017 and began to learn about native plants and their importance to our wildlife and the environment in general.   I am now determined to make my yard as nature friendly as possible and help spread the word about the value of natives in the garden.  Inspired to learn more, I became a Master Gardner in 2020.  I served as president of our club from 2020 – 2023 and look forward this next step in my garden club journey.
My goal is to support the clubs in our district to the best of my ability.  After all, we are all learning and growing together!
