Educational Opportunities
Our clubs utilize educational programs as part of their annual program.  District meetings offer additional, often advanced opportunities to learn many aspects of gardening.  GCO Annual Convention is an enjoyable event offering diverse programs to share with hundreds of garden club members in Ohio.

NGC Study Units
National Garden Clubs offer individual study units on horticulture, civic interest, floral design for youth and adults and landscaping.  These units are available on the NGC website for a small fee.  Shop NGC now!

GCO – NGC Accredited Schools
True to our mission, Garden Club of Ohio offers many educational opportunities.  These include four National Garden Clubs, Inc. accredited courses promoting the love of gardening, floral design, civic, and environmental responsibility:

Environmental School
Flower Show School
Gardening Study School
Landscape Design School

These classes are open to everyone: garden club members, hobby gardeners, professional gardeners and those wanting to learn the basics.  Each school requires registration and a fee determined by each school chairperson.

Our schools feature in depth instruction.  National Garden Clubs sets the criteria, requires specific content and approves the highly qualified instructors.  Curriculum is updated regularly to keep the material current and relevant.

There are four courses in each series of classes. They include intensive classroom study, hands on activities, and educational tours.  Most courses are two days in length with an optional examination on the third day for those who wish to attain the National Garden Club Accreditation.

Upon completion of the four classes with a passing grade (70 or above), National Garden Club members are eligible to become consultants. Other attendees not opting to take the exam receive a certificate of completion. (Additional requirements must be met to become an Accredited NGC Flower Show Judge.)

The schools also offer 10 hours of continuing educational credits for other such credentials needing continuing educational hours such as Master Gardeners.

Continuing education is required to keep credentials by either attending another of the schools or a special refresher event within 5 years of certification.  Symposiums and Refresher events, again open to the public, are available across the USA.

Accredited consultants are eligible to join and participate one of the councils:  Ohio Environmental Consultants Council, Ohio Judges Council, and Ohio Landscape Design Consultants Council.   These Councils offer continuing education, special tours and events.  Our Environmental Council offers a ‘Friends Of’ level of membership allowing anyone to join and take part in incredible programs and field trips.
