10:30 AM Horticulture Program: “The Culture of Tea” by Ruth Narendran. Ruth has first hand ‘tea’ knowledge as she was raised in her family tea business, learning picking to exporting, in a British Colony on the island of Sri Lanka. Her father was a tea merchant and exporter and her brother became a tea taster. As an adult living in the UK, she discovered their fascination with consuming tea and its health benefits. She hopes to convert more Americans to drinking tea as a form of relaxation. Ruth is a member of Highland Heights Garden Club.
11:30AM Announcements followed by Noon Luncheon menu of Woodside Signature Salad, Apricot Chicken (GF), Roasted New Potatoes, vegetable, dessert, coffee, tea, iced tea. Vegan/vegetarian option is Moroccan Pepper with Rice noodles.
1:00 PM Design Program: “The Way of the Flower: Ikebana as a Spiritual Path” by Kathie Houchens. Kathie explains that Ikebana is more than decorative. It is a spiritual process to help one develop closeness with nature and merge the indoors and outdoors. Kathie has many talents . She designs for the Columbus Museum of Art’s annual Art in Bloom Show and at the Franklin Park Conservatory in the Ikebono, O’Hara and Sogetsu schools. She is a professional organist, has a Master’s degrees in French and is a retired Ohio State instructor of Spanish. She is a member of Serendipity Garden Club.
