Sylvia Meiring

Sylvia Meiring of Toledo plans a show with lots of illuminated designs for our Holiday Shows: Wednesday, November 9 in Columbus for the south and Thursday, November 10 in Cleveland District for the north.

Her show titled “Up-Purposed Holidays” will honor GCO President Marlene Hatton’s theme of “Time for A Cool Change,” which encourages us to avoid plastics, and to reuse and recycle whenever possible.

Every design will have something recycled, or “something you couldn’t bear to throw away” from holidays past, Sylvia says. Most will have holiday lights.

She is an Accredited NGC Flower Show Judge and has been the Flower Show Chairman at the Toledo Botanical Gardens for the last three shows. She’s also a Master Gardener. Sylvia joined the River Road Garden Club around 2009.

Sylvia’s love of flowers was encouraged by her mother who painted blooms on her bedroom walls, and by her grandfather who let her play — and then work — in his greenhouse.

She’s passing on that love to her grandchildren and to those of others through her work with Toledo’s junior garden club. At age 5, her grandson Ozzie entered his first design show!
