Meet the Jackson District Director

Jackson Fall District Meeting Report

The Jackson District of Garden Club of OH, Inc. held our 2019 Fall District meeting on September 23rd at the Pioneer Administration office in Chillicothe OH.  Nearly 40 persons were in attendance.  The morning speaker was a local philanthropist, Alan Davis & his wife.  They showed a series of the development of their gardens over the past 20 years.  Everyone enjoyed this presentation and his gave them a rousing applause.  They joined us for a lunch provided by the local Panera restaurant with drinks donated by both Tim Horton’s and McDonald’s.   After lunch the director of the historic Adena Mansion & Gardens, Kathy Styer, gave us an update on the working status of this iconic facility.  She was also given a hearty applause at the conclusion of her presentation.  We also were given a short presentation by a member of our host organization on the work they perform for and with our developmentally disabled population.  There was a make ‘n take project planned which was cancelled due to time constraints with the understanding that the floral materials provided were not to be taken home by the donor (District Director).  There was a discussion of the bench to be purchased by the District for the Blue Star Memorial at the Veterans’ Administration grounds.

The final vote elected the no-maintenance bench to be ordered thru the Pickaway-Ross Technical & Career Center and assembled by a group of their students, who would also deliver and provide coordination with the VA’s Engineering Dept. for the installation.  Former President of Chillicothe Garden Club, Sharon McCorkle, presented us with a donation of $200.00 from the Ross County Veterans’ Council for the purchase of this bench.  Suzan Anderson, current president of CGC, also donated $20.00 toward this purchase.  The group was assured there would be a dedication at the Blue Star Memorial when the project was completed. Please accept my apologies for not having photos to add to this report.  Dead batteries!Respectfully submitted,Dee J. Stevenson, Jackson District Director, 2019-2021
